Treasure Island Chapter 4 : Summary

Here in the Chapter 4 of Treasure Island Jim, a character of the story who seems to be on the positive side tells his mother all about the captain’s last words. Then his mother and he decides to head to town for seeking help. But they are shocked to see that no one is ready to help them and thus none are willing to visit as all are afraid by hearing the name of Captain Flint. After a lot of argument they’re ready to go just to Doctor Livesey’s to inform him about what happened. This scene realises that the Captain might be a rowdy. Jim’s mother then shouts at them saying that they are all cowards and then shows her intention to go back to inn and then promises herself to help in his lodgings.

After hearings those words from neighbours, Jim and his mother then creeps towards the parlour of the inn into the place where they have left the dead body of Captain. This scene here says that whatever be the situation Jim and his mother are always kind with other people. Jim then there finds a blackened paper in which it was told that the Captain has just that night. Jim then watches his clock and knows it has rung just six. Then Jim searches the chest and finds a key hanging around the dead Captain’s neck. Jim’s mother then unlocks his chest and then they again finds a bunch of random things like clothes, a compass, a few trinkets and coins from different parts of the world. Jim’s mother then starts counting the coins and thinks how much she needed. But then just Jim hears the tapping of the blind man’s stick outside, which approaches near them and just fades away.

Jim’s mother is then afraid but still she doesn’t stop counting the coins as she just wanted to take as much she needed and not all. This shows that Jim’s mother is courageous woman who doesn’t dare to work for the welfare of her family. Then they suddenly hears a low whistle and thinking it is getting risky they decide to leave. Jim’s mother takes what she has and Jim too takes that bunch of papers. They both then heads towards downstairs and out to the back door. They there see a lantern and hear approaching footsteps. Jim mother asks Jim to take what she has as she is going to faint but Jim realises that they are going to be murdered and success themselves in hiding from sight underneath a bridge.

An article about my Mother

Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother as motherhood is the greatest god gift not only to womanhood but also too humanity. I feel proud myself being a girl because I too can spread the greatness of motherhood by showing to my children who mother really is. The famous writer Rudyard Kipling too quotes that God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers. Mother is the second name of love form as she starts to love her child before seeing them too. I here like to elaborate the suspense hidden inside the word “MOTHER”.

M- is for the Million things she gave me
O- means only that she is growing Old
T- is for the Tears she shed to save me
H- is for her Heart as pure as gold
E- is for her Eyes with love light shining
R- is for Right and right she will always be.

In life, there are many stages. I have always struggled in each and every kinds of obstacles and burden. I too have found many helping hands from friends, relatives, neighbours and others but none could replace the love and care from my mother. A mother is the best friend anyone could ever ask for. When everyone else turns away, she is the one turning towards you, when you fall, she’s the one that helps you up and when your heart is filled with despair, she’s the one that gives you a glimpse of hope. For when a child is born the mother also is born again. You can fool most of your friends most of the time, but you can’t fool mom. She sees right through you and always knows what’s wrong. Once she gives you that special hug everything seems okay and even though you never want her to let go, the feeling lasts forever. No man is poor who has a Godly mother. The most important person in my life is my mother because she is the one who carried me for 9 months even without a single sigh. My mother had brought me in this wonderful world without any complaining about all the pains she has been through. For me, she is an inspiration to everything I do. She has been in my life since I was born & she will always be in my life no matter what happens. I have learnt to love her from the day I was born but she started to love me even before that. My mother is the most important person in my life. I have been mentioning her in almost all of the essays I write. The problem is, I cannot really express how I feel about her in just words. My mother is not my whole life, but she is a really big part of it. My whole world does not only revolve around her, but she is the most influential person who inspires me. My mother is not just another woman. She is extraordinary. My mother is the most positive and important influence in my life. She taught me everything. In my childhood I learnt how to eat healthy food, how to be well dressed, how to stay safe and healthy from my mother. So on in my teen ages I learnt to cook delicious food, behave well with everybody, respect and love others and face the problems which arise in day to day life from my mother. She taught me how to feel. Well, she did not only do that. She showed me how to handle the feelings of anger, fear, guilt, joy, sadness, excitement, hate and anxiety. She also showed me how to give and take. I learned from her that giving is a lot harder than taking, but the former is much more satisfying when it is done. She told me that giving makes one happy. I am sure she is right because half of her life, she has been giving me what I need, and in spite of all that years of giving, she is happy. Though very slowly, I am learning how to give freely. All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother. She always supports me for my goals and ambition and that’s the key in pushing my dream. Words have always failed to describe the power, beauty and heroism of my mother's love towards me. My mother gives an awful lot of support to me whether it is visible or just a simple background encouragement. When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts because a mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child. Not only do mothers support their children but the whole family structure as she is the root of that family tree. When all is well, a mother puts her children before anything else, including their own comfort and happiness. She is a security blanket for me.

As like every mother in this world she too is too caring for me. No matter what physical structure she have but her motherhood towards me covers them all. My mother is the most beautiful woman I ever saw. She is very beautiful and has the kindest eyes that I have ever seen. She not only worked hard to ensure that I had a good upbringing, but was also very strict and often punished me whenever I went wrong. Even though I did not like the punishment then, I now look back and realize that it was meant to lovingly correct me and help me to follow the right path when growing up. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her. My mother have a slender, small body, but a large heart-a heart so large that everybody’s joys is welcomed in it with hospitable accommodation. My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind. A mother may surrender her life for the sake of their children. And yes my mother is a good cook who always leave us looking forward to the next meal. She knows how to mix the right ingredients to end up with a meal that often leave us licking our fingers. Just the memory of the foods that my mother prepared for us makes me salivate to this present day.

Relatives always tell me stories about my birth. They tell me how important I was to my mom. I was the foundation of her joy, strength, peace and love. It all happened one day, in course of talking with some relatives my mother told us an unforgettable incident that took place in my childhood. As she told me that when I was just in a stage of walking, one day I walked away unknowingly here and there. Might be I was attracted by some kinds of things which happened me to walk towards there. My mother soon realised that I was missing and then wandered here and there in search of me randomly. Suddenly she happened to stop by a grilled gate in front of someone’s house where she located a child’s pair of legs walking inside the house. She without thinking anything in the very moment just went through that little opened gate and suddenly rushed to catch that child from behind who was no other than me myself. She then screamed in joy by finding me as she thought that it was hopeless to find me by any means after I missed. As she was saying this incident when I had been grown up enough to know the motherhood, I realised how come someone know it was their own child’s leg walking towards other’s person gate. She even didn’t think a second and rushed to grab me. That day I then realised what a mother really means. I realised that if anybody can do this kind of act then it’s only no other than mother. How a mother reacts when her a child is missing and as per the definition of mother’s last letter ‘R’ she is always right and just right. Every child’s first utterance word is mother which too somehow figures the love and care of mother. Now I am a successful woman in life and is capable of doing my earnings too but still my mother thinks me as just a child and always treats the same as in my childhood.

Now I too am a mother and so is collecting a new experience of motherhood. I when had my own child for the first time in my lap, I forgot all the pains and suffers and then thought it was a precious gift given to me by God. I now become too happy seeing my child and her activities. I always feeds her well and in this due course has spent many nights sleepless just only to please my child. My eyes becomes watery with happiness when I hear the word mother from her mouth. Some parents wants their child to be doctor, engineer, pilot and many other kinds of professional so as to live their life happily but in my case I just want my child to be a good person and be success in whatever she becomes or does. I slowly now have realised how difficult it is to grow a child, it’s a feeling that can only be experienced after being a successful mother. The same experience I am collecting being a mother makes me to feel my own mother as the greatest god gift. A mother is one to whom you hurry when you are in trouble. She raised me with humour, and she raised me to understand that not everything is going to be great—but how to laugh through it. I now realise what else other things my mother sacrificed for my happiness.

My mother not only gave me life but also an amazing foundation to live my life by and also inspiration for my desire. My mother to me means comfort. She's always there for me and makes me feel comfortable even in odd situations. My mother means home to me, my mom is always where my home is. She raised me, took care of me and loved me. My mother means love to me. She loved all my activities and hugged away the pains, cleaned up the spills and has loved me through the best and worst times of my life. I may have let her down plenty of times, but she's never stopped telling me she loves me. My mother, to me, means courage. She's gone through a lot in her life. But, she's kept a good spirit about it all and has never stopped trying to do what is right. My mother means faith to me. She never gives up in her loved ones and has an unlimited amount of faith in my brother and me. We've failed plenty of times, but my mother has believed we can always do whatever we want. She prays for us with through her faith. To me, my mother means life. She gave me life when she could have chosen otherwise. She gave me life and she wants me to live it to the best of my ability.

I have heard many kinds of events in my life about the relation of mother and her children. Many are positive relationship but there are some few negatives too. I have heard of a mother pushing down her children from bridge or cliffs and also making them to suicide or murder them too. My body gets shocked when I hear such news as I can’t even imagine of such behaviour. I have heard many woman leaving their children in forest or river banks after giving birth to them as the birth process isn’t moral in their society. Many mothers too leave their children in hospital due to various reason too. And not only from the side of mother, many children too have done many bad things to their parents and yes to their mothers’ too. I have heard about many famous personality of society who have left their mother in forest to die and many also have left their mothers in different kinds of situations to die after forgetting her contribution to their life. I have heard many educated persons leaving their mother helplessly in different places. Many persons too has left their mother in old homage as they neglect and hesitate to care their mother. I just think how can these educated people do like this to their mother and what others illiterate will do then. But here I consider education doesn’t relate to a mother children bond as many illiterates too have cared their mother successfully and happily. Whatever others might think about their mother but I will never give up loving and caring to my mother.

Mom, you gave me everything but you never ask me to pay back. You are the best, the greatest woman in this world and in my heart. I love you forever. I am happy when I have you by my side to take care of me, to protect me and to give me your love. I am happy when I am your daughter. In the future, I will be more successful woman in life and I can take care of myself. But in my mother's eyes, I know that I am always her little daughter as I was. Words never ends describing my mother’s role in my life as she has been the most influential person in my life. People celebrate mother’s day once a year just to make a formality but for me every day I wake up turns to be a happy mother’s day and yes too happy children’s day. Mom, I know you are always there for me and will always push me to go after my dreams. I know you will never put any pressure on me but will always walk with me in every step to ensure that I am in the right path towards achieving my goals. Mom you have taught me so much and so I will always be grateful towards you whatever the situation becomes as I have already learnt to handle the worst situation from you.

Some can be a software developer or a designer or a programmer or enter inside security and internet applications or even be a freelancer.

I being an BIT student and too eagerly keen curious on android OS after completing my course wants to see myself to have been succeeded in my dreams of developing an extraordinary softwares and systems. Being familiar more on Android OS, I may take it as my base but then there’s still time if I need any rethink on due course of earning and achieving skills and knowledge. I after developing my dream software will then make it accessible to each and every public may or may not be free of cost. I don’t want to work under anyone but rather would prefer to be a boss of an IT company. Or else I want to be self employed by myself working on different projects being freelancer.

In today’s world, an IT professionals have been a must in every field to convert it into computerised form. Further to take new research in new kinds of advanced technology too, an IT is required. An IT professionals can be engaged in developing new softwares related various other professionals. An IT can be a good freelancer too to be self-employed. An IT can work in different kinds of companies like social networking, software development, designing, and programming. Face Fear OR Earn Respect!!!

According to dictionary.reference.com, Fear coins as a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid while, Respect is detailed as a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, and achievements. Both are the natural characteristics of human behaviour and yes they both are also a main aspects of life to live in a peaceful environment. Respect generally means taking into consideration of someone's or something's feelings, needs, thoughts, ideas, wishes and preferences. It also means acknowledging them, listening to them, being truthful with them and accepting their individuality and idiosyncrasies. In the other hand, fear means a purer emotion. It’s simply the recognition that someone or something has the potential to harm you, and nothing more. It does not involve the complex mix of attraction and avoidance that respect does - it simply makes people want to get away from the object of fear, and stay away.

Respect is positive emotion while fear is negative one. Moreover, fear is toxic and respect is nurturing. Fear is the one which destroys self-confidence while respect builds it. Fear is forced while respect is earned. Fear is life-threatening but respect is life enhancing. A fearful respect is of no use while a respectful fear always leads you to success. Fear is learned while respect is achieved. A fearful respect gives limited satisfaction while respectful fear is always long-lasting. It is better to take respectful fear then to earn fearful respect.

If viewed from the deep core of heart, fear is as equally important as respect is to live a happy life. Being fear about some crimes will distract people from doing such crimes. All people should fear in the faith of God so they always act morally and legally. Neither too much fear nor too much respect about something or someone is good because too much fear may lead the person who fears, to destroy that what he fears from and too much respect too may make people egoistic and arrogant. So it’s better to fear from immoral activities and respect every morality. It depends upon you whether to choose respectful fear or fearful respect.

Emigration-Its-drawbacks-and-achievements

Emigration is a process whereby natives of a certain country leave their country to settle in another country. There are many reasons why people choose to emigrate.  The factors that motivates migration can be categorised into two: pull factors and push factors. Pull factors are incentives that attract migrants to other countries. Among these are: job opportunities, better education, political and economic freedom just to mention but a few. The push factors are: famine and drought, war, political instability, cultural and tribal conflicts, lack of employment opportunities and increased poverty rates among others. More often, most emigrants return to their homelands only after they have earned enough money from the other countries. Emigration both consists of pros and cons. It may be advantageous in present but have a severe negative effect in future in nation’s economic growth and hence slows down the development if isn’t acted with good future planning. Emigration if not acted accordingly then can lead to be a severe effect in the development of the country. Emigration may be a better option to maintain better economic condition for some individuals in present but as they are not aware of their future they may have to live their life regretting. On one side, it might result on a brain drain for a country or in isolation and injustices for a person. Although, on the other side, emigration can help to improve the economy of a person, as well as the life style and economic opportunities of a person. But a country isn’t created by a person only and hence those individuals should have to look for the future generations too.

According to the emigrational statics of Nepal, more and more Nepalese migrate to different countries in the name of study, work, and medical treatment and or various training purposes. Many Nepalese youths are too emigrated in various golf countries as a result of human trafficking, slave trade and sex workers. Among them too the number of youths are the most and hence it has started to become a major problem in development of nation. Studying abroad the courses wished is not a bad idea but the problem creates when these Nepalese talents are wasted in those countries in the process of studying. Emigration can have a negative effect on the welfare of a certain country because it can cause a brain drain. The skilled and educated people, such as doctors, lawyers, engineers and teachers of the developing countries often emigrate to rich and more developed ones, such as the US, which offer them things that their country cannot offer. Some youths after completing their studies stay abroad in the name of earning as Nepal couldn’t pay sufficient for their talents. This practices too has hampered a lot in Nepal’s developmental status. These youths study abroad in scholarship or in government funds and at last hesitate to return back after completing their study as they become attracted towards foreign land saying they cannot maintain their living standard here in Nepal. These youth after achieving their successful education if returns back to Nepal and teach others then the future generation too does not have to rely upon foreign education system which leads to a better educational growth inside the country. They too can run their skills based developmental work for the development of nations.

Different countries have different educational systems and some may be better than others. Students may find better educational opportunities when they emigrate. Students in all grade levels may be able to attend better schools from elementary to universities. Education conditions are better in US, UK, Australia and many other developed countries than in Nepal. Students can get free accommodation, scholarships, job in the future. Good quality of life is guaranteed. For the very reason to fulfil their dreams some youths migrate in the name of studying to work in various developed countries. Emigrants may move to other countries to seek jobs in the name of studying. However, they are faced with problems in getting good jobs. Many migrants end up doing odd jobs to make a living or to pay their college fees and meet the living standards of those developed countries. This is as due to having academic qualifications that may not be recognized in those developed countries. For this very reason, those who migrate in the name of various purposes has somewhere a hidden ambition of residing in that country for work. Youth who migrates in those countries in the name of studying purposes is just showy. Their main goal is to establish a better living standard in the same country by working more than studying. Might be they work there in the name of paying for college fee but the habit of working and studying vastly attracts them towards work more than study which in near future converts into their full time work leaving education. As money attracts all of us we then leave our study and work there whatever work we get without knowing our own potential. There are many youths who migrates to different country in the name of education to work as they can get a better pay for doing some laborious work and then can maintain their economic conditions. This practice leads to emigration of human manpower required for the development of the country.
Some other reasons for the youths to emigrate are like for Financial Stability, Health Benefits, Self- expression and many more. People who emigrate may do so for financial reasons. One reason to emigrate may be to avoid inflation with higher costs, and the country they are leaving may not be providing adequate pay. The economy in the country where the person decides to immigrate to may offer better chances for job advancement, higher pay rates and more employment opportunities. Health benefits may refer to better health care, having a healthy home environment, better housing conditions, access to better medicine or the opportunity to stay fit through recreation. Every year many professionals from Nepal migrate to developed countries such as Canada, US, UK, and many others to work as doctors, engineers, or other professionals. This is good for the rich countries, but can be bad for the developing countries. Allowing foreign professionals to work overseas can cause many problems back home. First, the rich country is essentially taking the money that the developing country spent educating these workers. They are getting highly trained employees at a minimal cost without the need to build expensive universities. Why should Canada, US, UK, and many other developed countries benefit from Nepal’s education system? Another point is that many of these workers never go home. The skills they pick up abroad are not available for their home country. A third point is that many education systems are producing people for export, rather than providing skills needed in the home country. And hence this is the major problem of brain drain in the context of Nepal which has led Nepal in the slow development.

However, we cannot simply stop employing workers from overseas. First, most professionals are free to work where they want, and if Australia won’t take them, the UAE or Saudi will. Competition exists, and people are free to choose their careers. Nepalese regarded as the bravery item in the context of history of Nepal can easily obtain the bravery jobs in minimum payment which in returns turns out to be maximum for those individuals and hence without knowing the actual value of their labour and hard work they happily surrender in these kinds of bravery works. Secondly, the remittances from these workers help to educate children. These children will, we hope, be able to work in their economy without the need to emigrate. Developing countries need to examine why so many of their brightest, most talented and laborious people are leaving, and richer countries need quotas in place to ensure that they do not distort other education systems, economies and skilled manpower. But just think if every youth who had acquired any skilled knowledge returns back to Nepal after their successful study and do something that suits their skills rather than wasting their talent abroad, it would help in development of Nepal. And then in future we can produce those opportunities of skills here within Nepal which would help for the upcoming future generations to realise that the skill they wished to gain can be found here within Nepal. Then they too won’t head abroad and so more and more skilled manpower can be created by ourselves here within Nepal. We all know that Nepal’s economic condition is degrading day by day and we are the same people who talks about it in different social Medias and share our thoughts but none of us has studied why this all is happening. If rather than sharing ideas in Medias if we ourselves share the awareness about the both present and future harm for the country by going abroad and do help in the development than it would create some sense. I here don’t mean that going abroad is bad for the country but studying abroad and spending the same knowledge only there in abroad is bad. Don’t forget that we are the same people to develop our nations. Those developed countries too were like us in past. They too created skilled by themselves there within and now has reached in that standard. So we too rather than spending our skills abroad if we create those skills here within and spread it would surely lead us to developed Nepal one day.

The main reason of emigration of youths of Nepal to some developed countries is also due to the political instability. The political situation in present Nepal is so bad that no youths wants to waste their valuable time in improving the political stability. Due to the negligence of members of CA in Nepal, youths now have believed that Nepal is not the right place for them to spend their future and hence head abroad in different purposes. By this practices a large brain-drain has already been started and now Nepal is leftover with only under skilled and uneducated youths. And also for the sake of living these uneducated blindfolded people follow political practices under the influence of so-called great politicians as if these politicians are the only left overs to develop the nation. These uneducated people then in the name of political party have to struggle a lot for their living which ultimately have been an easy way to conduct political instability. A vast number of emigrants from Nepal can be controlled if political stability is maintained and then another big step for development can be added. The required skilled manpower is wasted in vain abroad as Nepal political situation is not under control which has seemed to be a big cause of brain-drain in Nepal. Youths feel unsafe to stay in their home country due to all these degrading political situation of Nepal and then heads abroad in search of their better future. Due to the bad political situation of Nepal those who are abroad and willing to return back to serve for the development of country stays there as they feel unsafe about their future in Nepal. It’s all due to political instability which has hampered a lot in further development of the country. Hence, if government too becomes serious about this matter and act accordingly to eradicate the political instability and make youth feel safe in their home country then it might decrease the number of emigration.

However, in the second place, emigrating from one county to another has its advantages too. As every coin has two sides this question too creates the same critics.  These vary depending on where you immigrate to, but a common reason is to find a better quality of life. These advantages may be opportunities not available to people in their country of origin. Some of the major benefits of emigration are to maintain financial stability to avoid inflation with higher costs, better education opportunities with free accommodation, scholarships and better job placement in the future, and better chances for job advancement, higher pay rates and more employment opportunities which in return help in the growth of the financial development of the family as good quality of education and job placement guarantees a good living standard and also for better health treatment. In context of nation’s pride too if the individuals catch a right track and then fulfil their dream and succeed then they can increase the reputation them and then too of Nepal which simultaneously may lead to a good reputation onwards.

And now as a conclusion, emigration if too helps in maintaining a better future of the person it eventually will turn out to be a severe effect for the development of the country. Hence regarding the pros and cons and the way the individuals take it, if nothing is done now for the proper solution of emigration then in near future it leads in lack of sufficient skills inside the country for its development. The skills abroad becomes useless while here it will not be sufficient. As more and more skilled and educated youths are attracted inside country, bad aspects for the development of country will disappear due to creation of awareness. When there becomes many skilled youths in the country then self-employment too comes into existence which will lead to a direct impact in development of nation. Self-employment reduces the number of unemployment and also then others its side effects such as illegal activities and crimes and then resulting to the reduction in corruption which ultimately leads to a rapid growth in development process. And it’s not only government to reduce emigration but also the youths themselves as government is just a part of it and we are the one who created that government. Youth too should show interests in expensing their talents and skills inside nation so as to contribute for nation’s development rather than to waste in those foreign lands. Youth can themselves create generate and produce new scientific skills and techniques with new future planning developmental process too just inside the country.

Confidence Smiles, Arrogance Smirks!!!

Before you shed your ideas and thoughts, you should make yourself crystal clear with these two identical terms, "CONFIDENCE" and "ARROGANCE". Going through the dictionary I found Confidence coined as a faith or belief that one will act in a right, proper and effective way while Arrogance resembles as an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter and more important than other people. Confident people are very aware and accepting of their short comings and weaknesses but arrogant ones feel insecure about it. Arrogance is all about trying to prove yourself while confidence is about trying to improve yourself. Arrogance may lead you to a better future but Confidence leads to a successful one too.

Ego vs Knowledge : Einstein
Ego vs Knowledge : Einstein

Superiority is the main quality of an arrogant person. Arrogant people are single-minded; they either think that they are superior to others or inferior to them. This arrogance may be nothing more than a way to cover the feelings of inferiority they experience when dealing with someone else. It seems they feel better when they tear others down. On the contrary, confident people are high-minded, because they can feel good without having a desire to offend others. They usually see people’s potential and can help them succeed in something. Relationships with arrogant people can be a great source of potential pain. Such people live in their own world of self-importance and pride and nothing affects them. They cannot accept their weaknesses or faults with grace, but blame others for them. A truly self-confident person is able to show vulnerability and even admit past mistakes. This quality is highly appreciated by others. By the way, arrogant people can sacrifice friendship or other relationships at the cost of their success. Might be now I think that I have make some clear points to differentiate the confusion between the words "confidence" and "Arrogance". Not only these many quotes are quoted in day to day life to symbolize the greatness between these words and in due course here's one quote stating, "To succeed in life, you need two things: ignorance and confidence." -Mark Twain, an American author and humourist.

By taking confidence as base I here do not want to put shadow in arrogance, as arrogance is also a part of human successful character, if taken in a positive aspects of life. A positive arrogant have the feeling of if others can then cannot he, which leads to a successful future. If there exists no arrogance then there will not be the existence of confidence too as these two are often coined as the two wheels of a cart. In some cases an arrogant person may have more skills than a confident person, but the confident person will tend to wield whatever abilities they have with more calm control than an arrogant person can. Finally, confidence and arrogance have different origins. Arrogance is usually the result of a defence mechanism used by subconscious mind in order to prevent further criticism. Confidence comes from positivity, optimism and mental steadiness. So now it's up to you if you choose to be arrogant or confident.

Well trained Education System ( 3 idiots ) : Movie Review

If 2009 can begin with ‘Dev D’ and end with ‘3 Idiots’, it is indeed time to sound the seetis and taalis for one of the most exciting years of contemporary Indian cinema targeting education system of today’s generation. Truly, 2009 has been the year of the Idiot in movie lore: the intrinsically intelligent, downright smart, Inimitable, Original and Talented film maker, actor, story teller, musician, lyricist, dialogue writer and producer. ‘3 Idiots’ is a 2009 Indian coming of age comedy-drama film co-written, edited and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and screenplay by Abhijat Joshi. It was loosely adapted from the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat. The film stars Aamir KhanKareena KapoorR. MadhavanSharman JoshiOmi VaidyaParikshit Sahni and Boman Irani. 3 Idiots is the perfect end to an exciting year for India. The three idiots, Rancchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad (Aamir Khan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and Farhan Qureshi (R Madhavan), are perfect archetypes of the new age Indian who is essentially a non-conformist, questioning outmoded givens, choosing to live life on his own terms and chartering new roads that consciously skirt the rat race. Of course, they begin on the beaten track -- due to societal/parental pressure -- but refuse to become cogs in the wheel. Naturally, they end up as the Frostian hero (Robert Frost's Road Not Taken) who made all the difference to his life, and the world, by taking the road less travelled by. In a late scene from the film, 2 of the 3 idiots zip down their pants and pat their bottoms facing the third idiot and saying jahapana tushi great ho. Rather than feeling gross at that instant, you have a lump in throat. For the zillionth time in a Hindi film, a bride runs away from the pheras on her wedding day. But the scene still doesn't come across as clinched. For a group of all-male engineering students, to 'deliver' means to literally carry out a delivery operation on a woman in labour pain. And when the motionless new-born responds to a goodwill chant of 'aal izz well' in true-blue Man Mohan Desai mode, you fail to find a fault in the filmy formula. That's the golden touch of Rajkumar Hirani! So after successfully dispensing philosophies of ' Jaadu ki jhappi ' in Munnabhai MBBS and ' Gandhigiri ' in Lage Raho Munnabhai, Hirani incites a new philosophy of ' Aal izz well ' in 3 Idiots. And like his doctrine, all is well in his helluva film.

3 idiots
3 idiots

Loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's bestseller Five Point Someone, 3 Idiots takes the plot much beyond the campus confines and the target audience much above the youth, for universal appeal. The story starts a decade after the graduation of college companions Farhan (R Madhavan) and Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) who get a clue on the whereabouts of their missing third friend Rancho (Aamir Khan). As they set out on a road trip from Delhi to Shimla to Manali to Ladakh to find their friend, the narrative cuts to and fro into flashbacks as we are introduced to the three idiots in an engineering college. Rancho, Raju and Farhan enter the elite engineering college, only to learn lessons of life that cannot be taught through books and classrooms. Principal Viru Sahastrabuddhe is no help at all. The story begins with the entry of our threesome in the city's elite engineering college. It takes the first tryst with the mandatory ragging sessions which enunciate who the leader of the gang is going to be: new entrant Baba Rancchoddas, as his friends fondly call him. Rancho not only leads his friends through the maze of India's competitive, high-pressure, rote-heavy, illogical and almost cruel education system, he tutors them on several life mantras too. Like, running after excellence, not success; questioning not blindly accepting givens; inventing and experimenting in lieu of copying and cramming; and essentially following your heart's calling if you truly want to make a difference. Warm-up has Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan) getting a call from oily businessman Chatur Ramalingam (Omi Vaidya) that he knows where to find their former fellow student, Rancho (Khan), who mysteriously disappeared after graduation. Farhan rounds up his old friend Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and, with no choice but to take Chatur along, the pair set off on the long drive north from New Delhi to the hill town of Shimla. En route, Farhan’s mind goes back to their days at engineering college, where he and Raju felt pressured by family and society to succeed: Raju came from a poor background and Farhan (who really wanted to be a photographer) from a conservative, middle-class one. Their liberating friendship with roommate Rancho — aka Ranchhoddas Shamaldas Chanchad — gave them a whole new perspective on life. From his delayed entrance on, pint-sized Khan dominates the movie as Rancho, a pixie-like, free-thinking Gujarati who isn’t fazed by normal pressures (encapsulated by his catchphrase, “Aal izz well”) and has a talent for creative problem-solving. This leads to a running battle with pompous, know-it-all principal Viru Sahastrabuddhe (vet Boman Irani), nicknamed Prof. Virus, but attracts the romantic attention of the prof’s daughter, Pia (Kareena Kapoor).

So, you have the threesome embroiled, time and again, in a confrontation with authority, as represented through the domineering figure of Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman Irani), the unsmiling Principal who venerates the cuckoo because the bird's life begins with murder. Kill the competition, because there is only one place at the top, believes the Principal. Poor, mistaken Principal! Doesn't he know that competition is effete, model students like Chatur (Omi) end up as duns in real life and non-conformists (Rancho and Rocket Singh Inc.), who care about being on top, could end up as eventual winners. More importantly, they could be high not only in IQ (intelligence quotient) but in EQ (emotional quotient) too, never losing their humaneness and social networking skills. Rancho clearly is different from anyone else in the college with his individualistic thought-process and rebellious attitude, which invites the ire of the college principal (Boman Irani) and affection of his daughter Pia (Kareena Kapoor). The high point of the film is the fact that director Rajkumar Hirani says so much, and more, without losing his sense of humour and the sheer lightness of being. The film is a laugh riot, despite being high on fundas. Certain sequences almost have you rolling in the aisle, like the ragging sequence, Omi's chamatkar/balatkar speech, the threesome's wedding crasher sequence, their mournful meal with Raju's mournful mum and Rancho's sundry demos to prove how Kareena has chosen the wrong guy for herself. Add to this, the strong emotional core of the film that makes gentle tugs, now and then, at your guts, and you have an almost perfect score. Hirani carries forward his simplistic `humanism alone works' philosophy of the Lage Raho Munnabhai series in 3 Idiots too, making it a warm and vivacious signature tune to 2009. The second half of the film does falter in parts, specially the child birth sequence, but it doesn't take long for the film to jump back on track.

Coming from Rajkumar Hirani, there was clearly a risk involved in the film's setting and characterizations for having a deja vu effect with his first film. Boman Irani, as the principal, almost revives his disciplinarian dean characterization from Munnabhai MBBS which is more palpable with his disgust towards the rebellious protagonist, Rancho (aka to Sanjay Dutt) who is furthermore in love with his daughter (aka Gracy Singh). Nevertheless, Hirani's direction is so impeccable that without a conscious effort, the analogy never strikes your mind and the scenario never looks repetitive. In his trademark style, Hirani grabs your attention from scene one with an unconventional opening to the film. Thereafter every single scene written in the screenplay (by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi) is not just relevant but also has a clear set objective - to be funny or be deeply poignant which means it either makes you laugh or cry and at some superlative instances do both simultaneously (which is an achievement). The writers have kept absolutely no room for any intermediate option.
The introduction sequence of the principal is hilarious and so is an annual day Hindi speech of honour by an NRI student. Raju Rastogi's poverty-stricken family is introduced with such nonchalance in spoofy black-and-white frames that what could have ideally been a melodramatic tear-jerker scene is transformed into a laugh-riot. The short-n-smart suspense induced at the interval point teases your anticipation. Sharman's revival scene in hospital reminds of the inspiring carom board scene from Munnabhai MBBS while the delivery sequence in the pre-climax is tackled tactfully and tastefully. The excellence in screenplay can't be summed up in merely a paragraph. In fact even the romantic song Zoobie Doobie is one of the most creatively conceptualized numbers since ' Dhoom Taana ' (Om Shanti Om) or ' Woh Ladki Hai Kahan ' (Dil Chahta Hai). The writers also represent a lot of their ideologies through the thoughtful dialogues touching several academic issues from grading systems, parental pressure, student suicides, and conformist coaching to theoretical knowledge, without getting preachy at any instance. Sample a straightforward gem that says, "Even a lion learns to obey his ringmaster. But you call him well-trained and not well-educated". Several engineering jokes make way into the script and never fail to make you laugh.

A word about:

Performances: Believe it or not, but Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman actually look -- and behave -- like students. While Aamir pitches in a near-perfect portrayal of Rancho, the free-spirited innovator, Madhavan and Sharman are perfectly in sync too. Kareena as the independent-minded medical student is winsome; debutant Omi has a refreshing flair for comedy and Boman Irani doesn't ham or go over the top even once.

Story: Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi script a warm and humanist indictment of India's rude-crude education system that prepares rats for a rat race rather than thinkers for a new world.

Dialogue: Witty and wild, the film walks away with the best comic scene of the year citation with its uproarious `balatkar' speech.

Music: Shantanu Moitra may not have forced you to pick up the music album of the film but the songs do come alive on screen, especially Jane Nahi Denge Tujhe, Zoobie-Doobie and Aal Izz Well.

Choreography: Avit Diaz has the threesome -- Aamir, Madhavan, and Sharman -- kick up some wild fun in Aal Izz Well, while Bosco-Caesar rightly go retro with Zoobie-Doobie.

Cinematography: The streets of Delhi and the picture postcard beauty of Ladakh are captured in riveting images by Muraleedharan CK.

Styling: Designers Manish Mehrotra, Sheena Parekh and Raghuveer Shetty create the pucca campus look for our rumbustious kids on the block, complete with ganjis and capris. Kareena too is an archetypal Delhi girl with her trendy, not flashy ensemble.

Inspiration: Chetan Bhagat's Five Point Someone literally comes alive on screen, although the film does not kowtow the book verbatim.

Shantanu Moitra's music is in perfect sync with the mood of the film. C K Muraleetharan's cinematography and Hirani's editing are flawless. Manish Malhotra, Sheena Parekh and Raghuveer Shetty's informal styling succeeds in giving the film it's trendy campus feel and the 30 plus trio convincingly pass off as college students. Performances are a highlight with Aamir Khan clearly stealing the show in the role of the sharp, optimistic, livewire Rancho. He is so effortlessly natural in his act that you take a moment to analyze and appreciate this as one of his career-best performances. Sharman Joshi is as much competent showing brilliance in both funny and emotional moments. Madhavan has an easy screen presence and perfectly complements his costars for amazing companion chemistry. Kareena Kapoor may have less screen-time but this is amongst one of her most appealing acts. And that is beyond her gorgeous looks. Boman Irani is exceptionally good as the principal. Despite adding a lisp to his character, he doesn't make a caricature out of it, which is the usual tendency. His mannerisms so distinctively remind you of the professors from your college days. Omi as the nerdy NRI symbolizes the teacher's pet you encounter in every classroom.

Rajkumar Hirani serves you idealism but with utmost conviction. He is able to establish a compelling connect with his audience, qualifying himself as one of the finest filmmakers of his time. Who else can turn something as trivial as pudina chatni into a price indicator? The film redefines idiot as 'I do it on my own terms'. After watching the film, you won't mind being certified as an idiot. If you still don't approve of the film, you are a certified cynic. '3 Idiots' is one of the most entertaining films of the decade. Amongst the performances, Aamir Khan is stupendous as the rule-breaker Rancho. But the rest of the cast doesn't remain in the shadows. Both Sharman and Madhavan manage to carve their independent characters as lovable rebels too. Even Kareena shines out, despite the minuscule length of her role. A special mention for Boman Irani who is impeccable as `Virus', the vile Principal and newcomer Omi who perfectly slips into the stereotype of the best, albeit bakwas student. Shantanu Moitra's music score, which may have sounded pheeka in the audio version, comes alive on screen with lyricist Swanand Kirkire giving India its clarion call for 2010: Aal Izz Well. Rush for it.

3 IDIOTS belongs to everyone. But, yes, there's no denying that Aamir makes you forget all his past achievements as you watch the amazing actor play Rancho. To state that this ranks amongst his finest works would be an understatement. Madhavan is incredible, especially in the sequence when he explains his point of view to his father [Pareekshit Sahani]. Sharman is outstanding from start to end. This was a difficult role to portray and only an actor of calibre could've pulled it off. Boman is superb as the vicious head of the institute. The scenes between Aamir and Boman are extra-ordinary and it's a treat to watch these two powerful actors clash on the big screen, without getting overdramatic. Boman's appearance, mannerisms and dialogue delivery are exemplary. The length of Kareena's role may not be as much as Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman, but she registers a strong impact nonetheless. Omi is excellent and the viewers are sure to love his acidic tongue and gestures in the movie. Mona Singh doesn't get much scope. Jaaved Jaffery is competent. Pareekshit Sahani is decent. On the whole, 3 IDIOTS easily ranks amongst Aamir, Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's finest films. Do yourself and your family a favour: Watch 3 IDIOTS. It's emotional, it's entertaining, it's enlightening. The film has tremendous youth appeal and feel-good factor to work in a big way.
